HOUSTON – As the holidays approach, many Houston families say they’re feeling the strain — working hard, yet still struggling to make ends meet. For hundreds of families this week, that pressure eased inside a packed convention center, where help, hope, and much-needed relief were waiting.
The 47th annual City Wide Club Super Feast returned this holiday season, offering food, clothing, toys, and career and medical family services to those who need it most. Organizers say demand this year is higher than ever, reflecting ongoing economic challenges across the region.
For Brittany Simpson, a single mother who works part-time in security, the event came at a critical moment. Despite working and paying her bills, she says rising costs left no room for Christmas.
“Every dollar goes to necessities,” Simpson said. “Diapers, wipes, rent — I haven’t been able to buy a single toy for my daughter.”
Simpson says Super Feast and similar community events have been a blessing for her family, providing support for a holiday season where her income simply isn’t enough.
City Wide Club organizers say stories like Brittany’s are becoming more common. Caitlyn Goins with the organization points to widespread job losses, cuts to government benefits, and inflation as key factors driving increased need.
“It’s been tough on everyone,” Goins said. “So, this event is stepping up where we need to.”
Super Feast offers food baskets, clothing, toy donations, and even activities like a bounce house for children — all aimed at helping families who are working but still falling behind.
For Simpson, attending Super Feast for the first time provided more than material support — it offered reassurance heading into the new year.
“2025 has been a crazy year for me,” she said. “Now I’m going into the new year with some blessings and I’m just going to keep putting my best foot forward.”
Organizers say Super Feast will continue serving families until the last person is fed. Once the doors close, planning starts for Super Feast #48, with the mission remaining the same: meeting families where they are, especially during the holidays.
