The attack reportedly involved three pit bulls. Witnesses said they saw the man being attacked and were able to run the dogs off the victim. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived.
The victim has not been identified, but Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials said he was in his early 60s. Family members told investigators he often walked the trails in the mornings.
After the initial attack, the dogs fled into a nearby neighborhood, where they attacked a mother and her 3-year-old daughter. That attack occurred in the 23600 block of Permission Creek Lane.
Both victims were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to be okay.

At around 12:50 p.m., officials confirmed that all three dogs involved had been located.
One of the dogs was shot by deputies and later euthanized after escaping into a drainage ditch. The other two dogs were captured.
The two remaining dogs will be quarantined for 10 days, and their future will be determined by a judge.
During a press conference following the incident, Sgt. Jason Brown with the HCSO Homicide Division said these types of attacks are unusual, but not unheard of in Harris County.
“It’s not common,” Sgt. Brown said. “It’s been several years since my squad investigated one, but we do have one every few years.”
Investigators said the dogs belong to a family in the area. It remains unclear how the dogs got loose, and detectives are interviewing the family to gather more information.
HCSO officials said local animal control has no prior history involving the family or the dogs.
