Woman killed in chain-reaction crash in Third Ward, driver taken to hospital

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police are investigating a deadly crash in Third Ward after a woman was hit and killed during a chain reaction of crashes Thursday night.

According to HPD, officers responded to McGowen Street near Tierwester around 11:30 p.m. and found the woman underneath a parked car.

Investigators believe she had stepped off the curb and was walking around a row of parked cars when a driver traveling down McGowen crashed into one of those vehicles. The impact pushed the parked car into the woman, throwing her under a second parked vehicle and killing her, police said.

In total, four cars were damaged.

The driver involved was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. HPD says they are looking into whether speed played a role and will also investigate whether impairment was a factor.

KPRC 2 has reached out to Houston police for any updates on the investigation, including whether charges will be filed.

This marks yet another deadly incident involving a pedestrian on Houston streets.
