Driver charged after video shows she hit 2 women fighting in SE Houston and drove off

HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston woman is facing charges after investigators say she struck two women with her car as they fought in the middle of Cullen Boulevard and then drove away without stopping.

According to court documents, Ladavia Lashun Wilson, 34, is charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid in the deaths of Sterlistick “Tee” Beatrice Johnson and Leslie Irene Sykes.

The crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 in the 8900 block of Cullen Blvd.

FIRST REPORT: Surveillance video shows 2 women fighting in the middle of the street before being fatally hit by vehicle in SE Houston

Investigators with HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Hit and Run Division said surveillance video showed the women arguing outside Cullen Food Mart before the confrontation moved into the roadway, where they continued fighting and fell to the pavement.

A witness told police he saw the women on the ground and believed an approaching car would stop, but instead said the red Toyota Camry “ran them over, then drove off without stopping.”

Houston Fire Department crews pronounced both women dead at the scene.

Detectives reviewed footage from several nearby businesses that showed a red sedan with a black roof hitting the women and then running a red light as it headed south.

A Flock camera search placed the same vehicle on Cullen minutes before the crash, and additional scans linked it to an apartment complex on Wenda Street.

Investigators said they also found the Camry with fresh front-end damage, blood spatter and debris underneath.

Police said Wilson later arrived at HPD’s South Central station and told detectives she believed she had hit a pothole. She said she drove to her sister’s apartment and checked the vehicle for damage later.

According to the affidavit, HPD recovered dash-cam video from the car, and investigators say it shows Wilson driving over the two women as they fought in the roadway and continuing south without stopping, calling 911 or checking for injuries.
