Deputies were patrolling the 3000 block of Silverlake Village Drive in Pearland when they tried to stop a suspected shoplifter, identified as 34-year-old Kieana Anderson.
Deputies say Anderson got into her vehicle, where her children, ages 12, 9 and 4, were waiting, and sped off. As she took off, the open driver’s door struck a deputy, knocking the deputy to the ground.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies joined the pursuit, which ended when Anderson crashed into another vehicle near Beltway 8 and State Highway 35. She was taken into custody immediately, investigators said.
No one was hurt in the crash. The deputy who was hit suffered only minor injuries, and Anderson’s children were released to a relative.
Anderson is being held at the Brazoria County Detention Center on bonds totaling $121,000.
She faces several charges, including:
- Theft of property between $100 and $750
- Aggravated assault against a public servant
- Three counts of abandon/endangering a child
- Evading arrest or detention with a vehicle
The Sheriff’s Office said Operation Blue Santa focuses on deterring crime and keeping shoppers safe during the busy holiday season.
