A truck attempting to beat a train across the tracks in Waller County was struck Friday morning, and deputies are seeking the driver who drove off after the crash.
The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. near Mathis Road and Hempstead Road. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the 18-wheeler was hauling excavation equipment, including a dump truck, when the driver attempted to cross the tracks and was struck by the train.
No injuries were reported. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the community. Deputies are working to identify the truck, its owner, and insurance details.
Union Pacific confirmed the incident, noting train operations have resumed. The company reminded motorists that if their vehicle becomes stuck on railroad tracks, they should exit immediately and call the emergency number posted at the crossing.
