Lake Houston water levels lowered ahead severe weather this weekend

HOUSTON – Houston Public Works will temporarily lower Lake Houston by 12-inches to prepare for a cold front that is expected to bring heavy storms and rain across Southeast Texas this weekend.
On Saturday, the area of low pressure driving the cold front will be much closer to us, bringing more intense rain and storms.
Crews will be lowering water levels at 12 p.m. on Friday. Officials said it takes 24 hours to lower Lake Houston by 12-inches.
The lake level will be reduced to an elevation of 41.4 feet.
Property owners are advised to secure property along the shoreline.
