HOUSTON – A former deputy constable with the Harris County Pct. 6 Constable’s Office has been arrested following a manslaughter indictment for a wrong-way crash that killed a man last year.
Rigo Villeda Vivar was indicted back on June 30 in connection to the fatal crash in Houston’s Second Ward back on Aug. 24, 2024. He was arrested Tuesday morning.
At a court hearing Tuesday evening, Vivar’s bond was set at $100,000.
Vivar was off-duty at the time of the crash, which led to the death of Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Resendez Jr.
The crash happened at 2727 Canal St. According to Houston Police, Vivar was driving a White Chevy (his personal vehicle) southbound in the northbound lanes and hit another vehicle turning right onto Live Oak St.
Resendez died at the scene. Vivar was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The Harris County Pct. 6 Constable’s Office terminated Vivar’s employment shortly after the crash.
