HOUSTON – Two alleged thieves were sent to the hospital after a property owner shot them during a confrontation in north Houston, where they were trying to steal copper wire.

Details are limited, as it’s an active investigation, but the Houston Police Department said they got a call just before 4:30 a.m. for a shooting on E. Burress Street near the North Freeway.
Preliminary information on the shooting is that two men were trying to steal copper wire when the property owner caught them in the act. Wielding a shotgun, investigators said, during the confrontation, the property owner fired at them, hitting one of them in the face.

Both of the suspected burglars were taken to local trauma centers. Officers combed through the area and couldn’t find any additional suspects.
No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but an investigation remains underway.
