Last month, in June, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 1,361 Houston-area undocumented immigrants who were charged with or convicted of crimes after entering the United States.
Thirty-two of the arrested men had been convicted of child sex crimes, nine had been convicted of homicide-related crimes, 16 were documented members of transnational gangs or drug cartels, and one was convicted of hijacking an airplane traveling from Cuba to Key West, Florida.
It’s not clear what the remaining immigrants were arrested for, but according to the news release from ICE, all of the people arrested are currently charged or have been convicted of a crime after entering the U.S.
Notable arrests in June by ICE’s Houston field office included:
Luis Pablo Vasquez-Estolano: A 29-year-old from Mexico who has been deported six different times and has convictions of homicide, aggravated robbery, vehicle burglary, and drug possession. He was arrested on June 10.
Jose Meza: A 40-year-old from Mexico who has entered the U.S. four times and has convictions for sexual assault of a minor and theft. He was arrested on June 10.
Arnulfo Olivares Cervantes: A 47-year-old from Mexico and a former Mexicles gang member who has entered the U.S. six times and has convictions for cocaine trafficking, attempted murder, evading arrest, illegal entry, and drug possession. He was arrested on June 13.
Javier Escobar Gonzalez: A 51-year-old from Mexico who has convictions for sexual indecency with a minor, criminal trespass with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, and unauthorized use of a firearm. He was arrested June 23.
Adermis Wilson-Gonzalez: A 56-year-old from Cuba who was convicted in 2003 of hijacking an airplane traveling from Cuba to Key West. He was arrested on June 29.
