A man wearing tactical gear and armed with a rifle opened fire at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday morning, according to the Department of Homeland Security, CNN’s Holmes Lybrand confirmed.
CNN reported that Border Patrol agents and local police officers responded to the scene and killed the shooter after a brief gun exchange.

“This morning, an individual opened fire at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told CNN.
The shooter’s identity has not yet been released.
The Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector confirmed the incident on Facebook, stating, “Early this morning, an active shooter incident occurred at Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex.”

“Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available,” McLaughlin added.
