Harris County deputies are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist and left another critically injured after being struck by two vehicles.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, units responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 1 to reports of an auto versus bicyclist crash near 10201 Veterans Memorial Drive.
Deputies found a man and a woman who had been struck by vehicles while riding their bicycles on the roadway. Both victims were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, while the woman was undergoing surgery in serious condition.
Investigators learned that the pair were first hit by a vehicle whose driver stopped and cooperated fully with authorities. The driver showed no signs of intoxication, and no charges have been filed against her at this time.
A second vehicle then struck the bicyclists and fled the scene without stopping. Authorities are actively seeking information about this hit-and-run driver.
