The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office says the incident happened on July 17, 2024, in the 8100 block of Windy Acres, near Beltway 8 and Highway 290.
Deputies responded to a home and learned an off-duty deputy with the Harris County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office was about to leave his home to head to work when he encountered two men burglarizing his home.
The deputy was in full uniform at the time and attempted to detain the two men. The two suspects fled and the deputy gave chase. During the chase, the two suspects allegedly pulled out guns and fired shots at the deputy.
After an investigation, law enforcement have identified the two suspects as 19-year old Cristian Barrera and 22-year-old Leo Lopez.
Lopez was already in jail on unrelated charges, but an additional charge of aggravated assault on a public servant was added. Lopez has had a $100,000 bond set for the aggravated assault charge.
On Monday, Cristian Barrera was taken into custody by members of both the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Harris County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office. Barrera was booked into jail on an aggravated assault against a public servant charge. His bond has been set at $75,000.
