1 dead after flash flooding in Dallas overnight

DALLAS – One person died early Wednesday morning as flash flooding swept through parts of Dallas, according to NBC 5.

The fatal incident happened under a bridge near LBJ Freeway at Hillcrest Road, in an area that saw heavy rain and rising water.

NBC 5 crews reported that Dallas Fire-Rescue launched a boat to reach two vehicles trapped by floodwaters beneath the I-635 bridge. The cars were partially submerged when crews arrived, but floodwaters quickly rose and completely covered them.

Witnesses saw two people escape from one of the vehicles, but rescuers had to wait for water levels to recede before they could safely check the second car. The Dallas County Medical Examiner arrived at the scene around 5:30 a.m. and confirmed one fatality. The victim’s identity has not been released.

According to NBC 5, the overnight storms dropped more than four inches of rain in some parts of Dallas-Fort Worth and prompted multiple high-water rescues. The National Weather Service had a flash flood warning in effect for Dallas County until around 3 a.m.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to five water rescues across the city overnight, including three involving multiple vehicles.
