McArthur Deashy Mathis (Grimes County Sheriff's Office)
HOUSTON – Nearly a week after escaping from an Austin psychiatric hospital, an inmate from Grimes County has been captured in Houston.
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office says McArthur Deashy Mathis was captured around 1:30 p.m. near I-45 and West Road by the US Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders & Fugitive Task Force.
Mathis escaped from the Cross Creek Psychiatric and Addiction Hospital in Austin on May 28.
Mathis has charges which include unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a family member, obstruction or retaliation, deadly conduct, and burglary of a habitation. He is also a registered sex offender.
The sheriff’s office says Mathis is being transported back to the Grimes County Jail.
