Balloon release, candlelight vigil to be held for 6-month-old killed in dog attack

A 1-year-old baby was rushed to a hospital Tuesday afternoon following a dog attack, according to Baytown Police Department. (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

BAYTOWN, Texas – A balloon release and a candlelight vigil will be held in the coming days in remembrance of the 6-month-old who died after being attacked by a dog in Baytown.

On Tuesday, April 1, just before 4 p.m., the child was rushed to the hospital from the Inverness Gardens apartments off East James Street after being attacked by the family’s dog.

Unfortunately, the child died at the hospital from her injuries.

Baytown police said the family-owned two dogs, and since the incident, both have been seized by animal control. The dog that caused the attack has since been euthanized.

On Saturday, there will be a balloon release in honor of “Baby Yoni.” The balloon release will be held at 704 Sheldon Road in Channelview at 6 p.m. and plates will be sold until they are gone.

On Tuesday, April 9, the Inverness Gardens Apartment Complex is hosting a candlelight vigil for the child. The vigil will begin at 7:45 p.m. at 1010 E Hunnicutt St.
