A man was hit by a car while trying to run away after deputies said he robbed a woman at gunpoint.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a woman was attempting to withdraw money from at ATM when a masked suspect approached her at gunpoint and demanded cash.

Investigators said that the victim complied, and the suspect fled the scene with the money. A short time later, deputies discovered the suspect had returned to the ATM, possibly in search of another victim. Deputies chased the suspect and during the pursuit, the suspect attempted to run across the main lanes of the East Freeway near Freeport.

The suspect was struck by a vehicle on the opposite side. The suspect was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover. He is currently detained, and investigators anticipate filing an aggravated robbery charge against him.
