HOUSTON – The congressional race for Texas’ 18th district is heating up with another familiar face.

Isaiah Martin announced his official campaign to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas’ 18th Congressional District. He previously served as the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s former Senior Advisor and previously ran for the seat back in 2023 during the congresswoman’s mayoral run.

This time, however, Martin faces Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee, who announced his campaign Monday morning and received a glowing endorsement from Jackson Lee’s daughter, Erica Lee Carter, who is also serving as his campaign’s chairwoman.

Martin is only the second person to announce his candidacy for the 18th congressional seat, but dozens of names are also being considered.
The executive committee of the Harris County Democratic Party will meet to select a nominee, with Aug. 26 as its deadline to finalize a decision.
