Congressman, former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to lie in state in city hall rotunda

HOUSTON – At the request of family members, Houston Mayor John Whitmire has extended an invitation to the public to pay their respects to former mayor and congressman Sylvester Turner.

Turner died Wednesday at the age of 70. He served as Houston’s 62nd mayor from 2016 to 2023.

He is scheduled to lie in state on Tuesday, Mar. 11 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Houston City Hall Rotunda located at 901 Bagby.

Turner is also scheduled to lie in honor in the Texas House of Representatives on Thursday, Mar. 13, and Friday, Mar. 14.
