14-year-old boy found shot to death near retention pond in west Harris co.

KATY, Texas – Authorities in west Harris County are working to figure out what led to a teenage boy’s death Thursday night after he was found shot to death near a retention pond.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Cy-Fair ISD PD were called around 9 p.m. for a shooting at High Stone Lane in Katy, where they were later directed to the retention pond at the corner of Sandy Bay & Stockfield Lane.

Deputies said the unidentified 14-year-old boy and several of his friends were at the location when another group of young men approached them. An argument of some sort broke out when one of the young men took out a gun and fired it, hitting the 14-year-old. He died at the scene.

Everyone involved in the incident has been described as between 15 and 17 years old. Deputies said those boys also ran off before law enforcement arrived.

Deputies also confirmed he lived in the neighborhood, and some of his family members were at the scene when officers got there.

As of this writing, no additional information has been shared, but deputies are continuing their investigation.
