President Trump backs the Take It Down Act to combat online abuse

President Donald Trump voiced his strong support for the Take It Down Act during Tuesday night’s address to Congress. The bipartisan bill aims to make the internet a safer place by targeting the distribution of both real and AI-generated revenge pornography.

The Take It Down Act seeks to criminalize the sharing of such content on any platform. It also mandates companies to respond promptly to victims' requests to remove the images within 48 hours, or they could face legal consequences.

President Trump emphasized the importance of this legislation in a video shared on Representative Maria Salazar’s X account, stating, “The publication of such images online is terrible... once it passes the house, I look forward to signing that bill into law.”

The bill is seen as a crucial step in protecting individuals from online abuse, particularly as AI technology continues to advance rapidly. It is currently held at a desk in the House of Representatives, awaiting a vote.
