ICE arrests 9 undocumented immigrants accused of sex crimes in Houston

ICE Homeland Security Investigations and the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Florentin Chevez-Luna, a 39-year-old three-time previously deported criminal alien from El Salvador, Feb. 24 in Plum Grove, Texas. Chevez-Luna was taken into custody pursuant to a criminal arrest warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a child. Chevez-Luna was just one of nine criminal aliens that ICE arrested during the week who have either been convicted of, or are charged with, a sex offense. (Houston ICE)

Between Feb. 24 and 28, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested nine undocumented immigrants in the Houston area who have been charged with or convicted of sex offenses and are subject to removal from the United States.

This operation was part of a multi-agency enforcement effort that included ICE, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Office of Attorney General.

The arrests included:

  • A 39-year-old from El Salvador, arrested on Feb. 24, charged with continuous sexual assault of a minor.
  • A 61-year-old from Mexico, arrested on Feb. 26, previously convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a minor, driving while intoxicated, and illegal entry.
  • A 55-year-old from Cuba, arrested on Feb. 25, previously convicted of aggravated sexual assault.
  • A 61-year-old from Cuba, arrested on Feb. 26, previously convicted of sexual battery with a weapon, sexual assault, kidnapping, and failure to register as a sex offender.
  • A 57-year-old from Vietnam, arrested on Feb. 24, previously convicted of abduction with intent to extort money for an immoral purpose, illegal possession of a weapon, and burglary.
  • A 57-year-old from Vietnam, arrested on Feb. 25, previously convicted of gross sexual imposition with a minor under 13, failure to register as a sex offender, aggravated assault, carrying a prohibited weapon, and prostitution.
  • A 41-year-old from Mexico, arrested on Feb. 26, previously convicted of indecency with a minor by contact, DWI, and marijuana possession.
  • A 72-year-old from the Philippines, arrested on Feb. 25, previously convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a minor and cocaine possession.
  • A 71-year-old from Cuba, arrested on Feb. 27, previously convicted of sexual battery of a minor.

“Our local communities are safer as a direct result of this targeted enforcement effort. In just five days, working alongside our federal and state partners, and leveraging HSI’s unique investigative authorities and extensive expertise investigating child exploitation crimes, we were able to quickly locate and remove these criminal aliens from the community before they could reoffend,” ICE Homeland Security Investigations Houston Special Agent in Charge Chad Plantz said in a press release announcing the arrests.
