Choose your own virtual adventure in Freedmen’s Town: The home of J. Vance Lewis and Pauline Grey-Lewis
HOUSTON,TX – Hello and welcome! Here lies the house that was built for Joseph Vance Lewis and his wife, Pauline Gray Lewis, back in 1907.
Lewis was quite the character in Freedmen’s Town —a pioneering lawyer known for his flair and talent, but he also had a knack for finding himself in sticky situations!
In February 2007, the Museum snagged the J. Vance Lewis house, and it quickly earned a City of Houston Protected Landmark designation, along with a Texas Historical Commission marker later that same year.
