PHOTOS: Fire towers high in the air after gas line explosion in Wharton County

WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – Crews are looking into what caused a large pipeline fire in Wharton County Wednesday.

The fire happened around 1 p.m. in the area of Highway 90 between East Bernard and Lissie near CR 270.

Highway 90 remained open during the incident and no injuries were reported.

The Wharton County Pct. 2 Constable’s Office said the fire is now out after Kinder Morgan turned off the valves to the pipeline.

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office says no foul play is suspected in the incident and they continue to look into what caused the fire.

Kinder Morgan released the following statement on the fire:

At approximately 12:35 p.m. Central Time today, Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) experienced a pipeline failure resulting in a fire on one of its pipelines in East Bernard, Texas. At this time, the fire has been extinguished, and the impacted pipeline segment has been isolated and shut down. All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.
