Crews with the Houston Fire Department said they were called around 10:40 p.m. near Monroe and Airport on the Southeast side to a large commercial complex. The fire was so massive it spread to several buildings on the property.
KPRC 2′s Brittany Jeffers went out to the scene, where flames were extinguished but smoke remained as of 5 a.m. Several fire crews were still at the scene monitoring for hot spots. We also learned a hotel nearby was asked to shelter in place.
More than 100 firefighters were called to assist, and at one point—a mayday was called when a firefighter was separated from his company.
So far multiple buildings on the property have burned. As of this writing, officials don’t know what caused the initial fire, but that will be part of the investigation.
