Mulch fire at Frank’s Nursery sparks multi-day response effort

On March 29, at 4:44 p.m., the Richmond Fire Department responded to a mulch fire at Frank’s Nursery in Richmond, at the 300 block of FM 359.

According to officials, nursery crews were attempting to control the fire on a large pile of mulch by chipping to spread the pile. The fire spread, prompting additional resources and mutual aid for water assistance.

On March 30, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the fire flared significantly, prompting a request for mutual fire aid assistance for water.

Efforts to cool and dismantle the pile are ongoing, with the fire expected to burn for 2 to 3 days.

Air quality is being monitored and no evacuation orders have been issued.

Responding agencies include Richmond Fire, Pecan Grove Fire, Sugarland Fire, Rosenberg Fire, Northeast Fire, Willowfork Fire, Community Fire, Stafford Fire, Fulshear Fire, Fort Bend County Hazmat Response, Fort Bend County Road & Bridge, and Fort Bend County Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
