Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it appears a man exited a Ford Explorer and approached a light colored sedan at the location.

“The person that would end up being the victim began, we’re told, striking a male driver in the other vehicle. The other person retrieved a pistol and shot at the male, striking him there,” Gonzalez said.

The man was taken to a hospital, but died from his injuries. The person in the other car fled the scene.

The man who died is approximately 30-years-old. Gonzalez said a one-year-old child was also found in the backseat of the man’s vehicle. The child was unharmed, but Gonzalez said a family member who came to the scene took the child to the hospital as a precaution.

Gonzalez said deputies are currently trying to gather more information and speak with potential witnesses.

“We don’t know if there may have been a road rage situation that happened prior to this. We just know what happened here,” he said.

Gonzalez said they are also seeking to talk to the other person involved.

“If that person’s out there, we would like them to contact us at 713-221-6000 so we can get his side of the story as well,” Gonzalez said.
