Black Excellence: Viral sensation, founder of the Hood Orchestra, shares his passion for music and his community

If you’ve been on social media lately, chances are you have scrolled upon this viral sensation but did you know that he got his start right in our backyards?

Houston native Michael Prince said that he fell in love with music right in the heart of Third Ward where he began playing the drums at age 3.

Prince’s non-profit organization, the Hood Orchestra, has more than a million views on Instagram and TikTok.

He is often seen teaching students in various school districts about stringed instruments and incorporating hip-hop and trap music which have both been pillars in the Black community for generations.

Not only is he having a great time sharing his passion, but you can see students in his videos having a great time learning the new material.
