Child struck, killed by vehicle after not using crosswalk

HOUSTON – A child is dead after being struck by a vehicle in north Houston Saturday.

It happened near the intersection of N. Shepherd and Tidwell around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities responded to the report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. When they arrived, they found a child, who appears to be a pre-teen, had been hit while walking across N. Shepherd where there was not a crosswalk.

The traffic light had been green for the ongoing traffic, and he was hit.

The child was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver reportedly stopped a short distance past the intersection, and he cooperated with police. He is not facing charges at the moment.

The child did not have identification on him, so officers were having difficulties identifying him.

The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
