Houston, we have a housing phenomenon! Opendoor’s latest report, on 2023′s Hottest ZIP Code, spills the beans on a suburban surge, and two Houston-area ZIP codes are stealing the show. Welcome to the spotlight, Cypress and Katy – the hottest housing markets in the entire United States.

Diving into the nitty-gritty of the Opendoor study, which dissected ZIP codes where homes vanished from the market like hotcakes, the suburbs emerged as the undisputed stars. Cypress’ 77433 ZIP code skyrocketed to the top of the list, a remarkable leap from its humble seventh-place status in 2022.

But wait, there’s more to this Texas-sized tale! Katy’s 77493 ZIP code gracefully slid into second place.

Texas ZIP codes dominate the list, with nine Texan cities securing spots on the 20-city list, including Forney (No. 6), Aubrey (No. 7), New Braunfels (No. 8), San Antonio (No.9), Fort Worth (No. 10), Leander (No. 13), and Park Row (No. 20).

It’s a Texan takeover, proving that when it comes to the housing market, everything’s just a little bit bigger and better in the Lone Star State.

Now, why the suburban allure? According to Opendoor, turnkey homes and housing prices were the MVPs of 2023, joined by the rising chorus of homebuyers seeking convenient locations. The report’s author wrote, “Homes purchased in our top neighborhoods reflect the desire of homeowners to head to towns with convenient amenities instead of the congestion of bigger cities.”
