El Paso news station KTSM said the child’s father, 20-year-old Bryan Eduardo Acosta Rodriguez, had left the family’s home in a 1998 GMC Cargo van but returned because he’d left something behind.

When the father returned to the home, Acosta Rodriguez’s wife had come outside to meet him with the item he left.

During the exchange, the couple’s 20-month-old baby somehow exited the residence and was hit by her father’s truck as he pulled away from the home.

The baby was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
