Man dies after intentionally setting fire to home; grandfather and younger brother escape the blaze

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Officials said a victim who died in a house fire Sunday intentionally set the blaze while his grandfather and younger brother were also inside the home.

Community Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 6500 block of Cody Mountain Trail at around 6:28 a.m.

Officials said when they arrived at the scene by 6:34 a.m., they saw flames coming from the second floor. By 6:44 a.m., the fire had been extinguished.

While firefighters were searching the residence, 20-year-old victim Ayodele Adeyi Adenegan was located in a bedroom on the second floor.

Officials with Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office were dispatched to the home to investigate the origin and cause of the blaze.

After an investigation, officials confirmed that the fire was intentionally set by the victim. The victim’s grandfather and younger brother were able to escape the house without any injuries.

Investigators are unsure if Adenegan was targeting his family.

The fire marshal’s office said there were no other injuries to firefighters or pets.
