GALVESTON, Texas – A man died after authorities said he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the street in Galveston early Sunday.
According to the Galveston Police Department, they responded to the intersection of 23rd Street and Avenue J on a reported auto pedestrian crash at approximately 12:08 a.m.

They arrived to find a man lying in the road with severe injuries.
Police said witnesses told them a white Hyundai sedan was traveling westbound through the intersection and the man was seated in a wheelchair as he entered the intersection crossing in a northbound direction. The sedan entered the intersection and struck the man.
The Galveston Fire Department, along with Galveston EMS, responded to the scene and took the man to UTMB Health at Galveston where he later died.
The driver of the Hyundai stayed at the scene and intoxication is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
