SUGAR LAND, Texas – Having a baby is one of life’s biggest blessings. Whether you are pregnant now, are trying to grow your family, or know somebody expecting – you need to mark August 1 on your calendar. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is hosting a community baby shower – and it’s free for everybody! But this isn’t your average baby shower. This maternal – infant health and safety fair is your one-stop shop to get ready for a baby.
Donna Timmer, MSN, RN, IBCLC, a lactation support consultant at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and Cristina Martin, RN, MSN, RNC-OB, NEA-BC, Director of the Childbirth Center at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital joined KPRC Saturday morning to talk about the special community event. Registration is open now. Timmer started the baby shower several years ago and is grateful to the Fort Bend community for supporting the event and all of the new families.
“We have a pediatrician that’s there that can answer questions for you,” Martin said. “There is just a lot of resources and community safety stuff. August is our breastfeeding awareness month. We have our lactation assistants there, and it’s just a wonderful event.”
There are more than 30 vendors participating in the annual community baby shower. Some of the information families can expect to learn about are:

If you are interested in attending the community baby shower, it is on August 1 in the Brazos Pavilion Conference Center on the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital campus. The free event runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more information about the event, or how to register, click here.
Attendees are welcome to stop by any time during the shower. Demonstrations will be provided throughout the event and light refreshments will be offered. Attendees can also participate in numerous raffles and door prize drawings. In addition, all new and expectant mothers will receive a handmade burp cloth and nursing pads made by our community and staff.
“It’s a multi-generational support for new moms and babies. We have anyone from senior citizen groups sewing, girl scouts sewing, family friends, co-workers,” Timmer said.”
