More than 30 livestock rescued from Fort Bend County plant where water, soil contaminated with E. coli

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – More than 30 livestock animals, including goats and cattle, were seized by rescuers from the Houston Humane Society at a Fort Bend County packing plant this week.

Deputies with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Bend County Attorney’s Office assisted HHS’s Animal Cruelty Taskforce to seize the animals who were found in small confinements and pastures where it was reported that water and soil were contaminated with E. coli.

Deputies discovered the livestock were without food and water.

Fort Bend County Attorney Bridgette Smith-Lawson worked to secure the order to award custody of the animals to HHS.

The animals will remain under their care until they are ready to be adopted or transferred to a sanctuary.

The investigation in this case remains ongoing.
