The suspect was allegedly out on bond for a vehicular manslaughter charge

KATY – A deputy has been transported to the hospital after falling while chasing a suspect in the Katy area Tuesday evening.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted about the incident that happened in the 800 block of Katy Fort Bend Road around 8 p.m.

Sheriff Gonzalez said deputies were attempting to detain two suspects who were allegedly making threats at a business when one of them fled on foot.

While chasing the suspect, a deputy jumped into a culvert, hurting his ankle but is expected to be OK. He was transported to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation.

Deputies opened manholes and used helicopters searching for the person.

“We sent k-9 units and deputies into the culvert the drainage system. We checked it going eastbound and determined that was not the direction he went,” said Major Wayne Kuhlman withe sheriff office’s westside patrol bureau. “They continued to search to the west and eventually located some tracks, clothing of the suspect and then the suspect.”

The second suspect was caught hiding in the drainage system along the bayou, according to deputies. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was out on bond on a vehicular manslaughter charge.
