BAYTOWN, Texas – A Goose Creek CISD student has been arrested after posting threats on social media Thursday morning, according to the district’s police department.

The district said the threats stemmed from a deadly shooting on Wednesday at a Baytown apartment complex where a student who attended Robert E. Lee High School was killed.

About an hour after the threats on social media, the Goose Creek CISD Police Department arrested the student responsible.

The district provided the following statement:

“The Goose Creek CISD Police Department and the Baytown Police Department showed diligence and collaboration in addressing this threat. While we continue to build a positive culture on our campuses, we strongly encourage our students and families to discuss that “kidding around” is no longer a defense for such serious threats. We appreciate our families and students who utilized our mantra “see something, say something,” as we believe this dialogue contributed to the swift apprehension of the suspect,” the statement read.
