A man was struck in the head by possible celebratory gunfire outside his SE Houston home, police say (KPRC)

HOUSTON – A man is expected to survive after he was struck by a stray bullet possibly stemmed from celebratory gunfire Saturday evening, police said.

Houston Police Lt. I. Izaguirre said the man was with his family watching the Astros game on TV at a home in the 9300 block of East Avenue O in southeast Houston around 10 p.m.

Izaguirre said the man suddenly felt what he described as “a hammer hitting the back of his head” when the apparent bullet struck him.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to live.

Police believe the bullet may have stemmed from possible celebratory gunfire as it reportedly occurred toward the end of the game.

No other injuries were reported. Police do not have information on a possible suspect.

An investigation is still ongoing.
