2 children safe after carjacking turned attempted kidnapping in SW Houston; suspect is mother’s ex-boyfriend: HPD

HOUSTON – Two children are safe after a carjacking that led to a kidnapping in southwest Houston Sunday, officers with the Houston Police Department said.

HPD units responded to reports of an assault in progress in the 8100 block of Edgemoor Drive around 9:20 p.m.

According to investigators, it was reported that a mother arrived home with her two children, ages 4 and 5, when her ex-boyfriend was hiding in the shadows and quickly approached her. He then got into a physical altercation with the mother and her new boyfriend, HPD said.

Police said the mother’s vehicle was turned on and parked along the curb. The ex-boyfriend then jumped into the car and drove off with the children inside, HPD said.

Officers said the ex-boyfriend was texting a person that they both know and wanted to drop the children off at a location without police presence.

FOX and patrol officers reportedly searched multiple locations for the vehicle and the air unit located the vehicle. Investigators said patrol units made contact with the suspect and took him into custody.

The two children were recovered and were not injured. An investigation is ongoing.
