Parents of 2-year-old boy found wandering in southwest Houston have been found, police say

HOUSTON – The parents of a 2-year-old boy that was wandering in southwest Houston Thursday have been found, police said.

Officers with the Houston Police Department received reports about a child that was found in the 6500 block of Sands Point Drive around 6:05 a.m.

According to HPD, the toddler was half naked. A man with a dog saw the boy and called the police, investigators said.

Emergency officials with the Houston Fire Department checked the child and said he didn’t have any injuries or bruises.

Officers said they noticed a distressed man walking on the road and asked him what was wrong. Police said the man told them his child was missing and he had pictures. Investigators said they were able to confirm the man was the child’s father.

According to investigators, the child’s father told police that there was a malfunction with the door of their apartment, so the toddler got out.

Police said the case was referred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, but they refused charges, saying it was an accident.
