Mayor Turner kickoffs 10th annual Liftoff Houston Startup Business Plan Competition

HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced the launch of the 10th Annual Liftoff Houston Startup Business Competition Wednesday morning.

The Liftoff Houston Startup Business Competition, which is sponsored by Capital One Bank and administered by the Houston Public Library (HPL) and the Office of Business Opportunity (OBO), is a professional and educational mentoring program for those who have the entrepreneurial spirit.

The competition will be based on three categories: Service, product and innovation. The winner of each category will receive $10,000 in seed money from Capital One Bank. The competition will be mainly held online at www.liftoffhouston.com.

Participants must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Must be in the start-up phase of your business which means you either must have a business idea or have a business in operation for less than one year.
  • Must have revenue of less than $10,000.
  • Must live within the City of Houston limits. Also, if you have a business location, it must be located within the City of Houston limits.
