It happened on 3100 block of Spencer Highway shortly before 5 a.m.

According to Hitchcock Police Chief William Smith, the police officer, identified as Sgt. Louis Garcia, was apparently leaving his apartment in his truck when at some point the man charged at him with a gun in his hand and attempted to rob him.

Sgt. Garcia pulled out a gun and that’s when Smith said he fired at least once at the suspect.
