1 resident hospitalized, 20 units damaged in 2-alarm fire at SE Houston apartment complex, HFD says

HOUSTON – A resident is in the hospital and several units are damaged after a fire at an apartment complex in southeast Houston Wednesday, officials said.

It happened at an apartment complex on Leonora Street near Bellfort Avenue.

When firefighters with the Houston Fire Department arrived at the scene, they witnessed a heavy blaze showing from multiple units. The fire was upgraded to a 211 fire, officials said.

Nearly 40 firefighters were called to help put out the blaze, officials said.

According to HFD, all residents were able to exit their units safely. One resident was transported to the hospital by ambulance for smoke inhalation, officials said.

Around 20 apartment units have been affected by the fire and the apartment complex has no power, HFD said. Red Cross has been requested at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
