Katy ISD returns to the classroom Wednesday, introduces district’s first school with solar panels

KATY, Texas – Students in Katy ISD returned to the classroom on Wednesday morning.

Haskett Junior High opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday morning. Teachers and staff welcomed more than 800 students. Administrators say the school has state-of-the-art technology as well as a fully integrated solar field, a first for the district.

“The amount of technology supports our students have is top-notch,” said Principal of Haskett Junior High, David Paz.

The construction project manager for the district said that on a sunny day the school will be fully powered by the solar panels. Educators say that the panel will also be used as a hands-on learning tool for students’ education.

“Any time we can get students hands-on and see it and relate it to how they live currently, they are able to click and understand those types of concepts quickly compared to just reading about it,’ said Science Instructional coach for Haskett Junior High, Kristine Moline.
