Traffic alert: Truck crash in Fort Bend County closes all lanes of I-69 northbound

HOUSTON – A truck crash involving a HAZMAT cleanup has closed all main lanes of I-69 northbound at Williams Way in Fort Bend County.

TxDOT crews are on scene.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office told KPRC 2 that the initial crash was a pick-up truck and a tanker truck. Those units were parked on the inside shoulder near the barrier exchanging information when a car reportedly swerving in and out of traffic struck the parked 18- wheeler from behind. After striking the 18-wheeler, the car then spun out into the northbound lanes of I-69/59, striking an SUV. The driver of the car was transported by helicopter to downtown in critical condition. His current status is unknown.

The Fort Bend County Crash Team is working on the scene and I-69/59 northbound is currently still closed at FM 762 with several units directing traffic to keep the traffic flowing as well as possible. The 18-wheeler tanker was damaged in the crash and its gas may have to be offloaded on I-69/59, authorities said.

Expect delays, authorities said. Drivers are asked to seek alternate route.
