HOUSTON – A 13-year-old was hospitalized and 17-year-old was taken into custody following a shooting at a birthday party late Saturday, according to Houston Police.
At approximately 11:34 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to two different locations, an event venue at 5051 Reed Road and a nearby McDonald’s restaurant at 9126 Cullen Boulevard, on a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived at the event venue, they located a 17-year-old male suffering a gunshot wound to the leg. At McDonald’s, responding units found a 13-year-old shooting victim who also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
Following a preliminary investigation, officers determined a shooting occurred during a birthday party at the event venue. Some sort of altercation occurred involving the 17-year-old male. The 17-year-old shot towards the party, striking the 13-year-old. At some point during the incident, the 17-year-old also suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
Officers aren’t sure if there was another shooter or if the 17-year-old male suspect accidentally shot himself. Witnesses told investigators the 17-year-old was the only shooter.
The 13-year-old’s mother drove the teenager to the McDonald’s location to call for help.
Both the 17-year-old and the 13-year-old were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The 17-year-old is in police custody.
