HOUSTON – Detectives and family members are desperately searching for help to find the person who killed their loved one.
The victim was identified as Roger Lewis, 54. He was married with a 10-year-old daughter.
“We’ve been together 15 years. Ever since I met him, he’s just been a great guy. He’s never bothered anyone. All he worried about was taking care of his family and that’s that. He’s not a person of this here at all. This should have never happened,” said his wife, Deloris Lewis.
On Wednesday, police released a surveillance video showing the aftermath of the shooting.
The shooter’s car, believed to be a gray or white Nissan Altima, was seen driving away from the scene. Seconds later, witnesses in an SUV and another car drive by.
It started when Lewis got into a minor crash with a woman on East 35th and Europa Streets the evening of April 18, according to detectives.
When they stopped to exchange information, other cars pulled up and someone shot and killed Lewis.
It was unclear if the woman involved in the crash knew the shooter.
Lewis’ family asked for help to catch his killer.
“What happened to him? He didn’t deserve this at all. He was a man of God that always preached to our children, his child and others about gun violence and senseless acts like this here,” said his sister-in-law, Alisa Hatch.
Lewis’ funeral is planned for Saturday.
Anyone with information is urged to call Houston Police Department Homicide Unit at (713) 308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
