Possible racing leads to death of motorcyclist, multi-vehicle crash on I-45

HOUSTON – A deadly motorcyclist crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-45 at Parker Road Monday.

A witness told police that at about 3:30 a.m. the motorcyclist and the driver of a pickup truck were racing in the southbound lanes of the freeway when the two collided. The truck flipped and the motorcyclist hit the center divider and slid across the freeway onto the shoulder, police said.

A passerby who saw the motorcyclist lying on the ground stopped and performed CPR until emergency crews arrived.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck became trapped under the vehicle and had to be pulled free. The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

All southbound lanes of I-45  were closed until about 6:30 a.m.
