Custody Battle Stems From High-Profile Murder

Restraining Order Issued

GALVESTON, Texas – Both the mother and father want custody of the two children. It sounds like hundreds of other child custody cases.

But this court fight is different -- it has ties to the high-profile murder of an orthodontist allegedly run over by his dentist-wife in the parking lot of a Clear Lake hotel.

Chuck Knight said he worries for his children's safety since his ex-wife, Julie Knight, is a close friend of Gail Bridges', the woman who was reportedly having an affair with David Harris.

Clara Harris, 44 is charged with murdering David Harris after suspecting him of cheating on her.

The incident happened the night of July 24 at the Hilton Nasa Clear Lake, Nasa Road 1, in Nassau Bay. Bridges was with David Harris when he died, officials said.

Harris remains free on a $30,000 bond. But as a condition of her freedom, the judge ordered her not to have any contact with Bridges, the woman her husband was allegedly having an affair with, or to come within 200 feet of the woman's home or office.

Knight said that he is concerned that Harris may take action against Bridges, who spends a lot of time with his children.

Knight requested a change of venue for the child custody hearing. He wants it moved to Harris County. Knight said he has received unfair treatment in Judge Susan Baker's courtroom.

Since the court documents are sealed, the exact details of what happened in court Wednesday were not released.

Knight also did not reveal much after the hearing adjourned.

"I'm sorry. I can't talk," Knight told News2Houston.

Julie Knight also declined to discuss the case.

The attorney for Julie Knight filed a temporary restraining order Wednesday, which forced all parties to remain silent about the case.

The order stated that it is "to counter the severe, false, damaging and adverse publicity which has already resulted."

Baker granted the temporary restraining order.

Earlier this month, another judge issued a protective order to keep Chuck Knight from his ex-wife and his children, stating past family violence. Knight said he plans to appeal the order.

Clara Harris' murder trial has been scheduled for January.
