Caught on camera: Burglar breaks into Frenchy's

HOUSTON – A "bad egg" burglarized a chicken shack next to the University of Houston's main campus early Wednesday morning.

The original Frenchy's location, at 3919 Scott St., is considered an institution by many Houstonians. The walk-up style restaurant opened in 1969.

The owner said while this certainly is not the first time this location has been burglarized, it is the first time surveillance cameras have caught such a clear image of the perpetrator.

"I wish that I could get to him and tell him to change his life now because the path that he is on will lead to bad things," Frenchy's owner, Percy Creuzot, said.

Creuzot has been known to hire people down on their luck and with criminal records.

Early Wednesday morning, the man, described as being in his 20s, broke several front windows to get to the registers.

What that man failed to notice is that the register drawers were already wide open to show there was no cash inside.

The man, who may have been working with a lookout not seen on camera, left a big mess before he flew the coop.

"When they catch him, they need to put him in jail and not let him eat any chicken for a while," said Will Hamilton, a long time lunch customer.

Anyone with information about the burglary should call Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
